ASGE Journal Scan is a new weekly e-publication of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, a professional organization for more than 15,000 gastrointestinal endoscopists and related professionals. ASGE Journal Scan provides ASGE members with up-to-date literature reviews and expert commentaries on topics related to gastroenterology and endoscopy. This new publication aims to highlight and summarize current and relevant science, while providing contextual commentary from subject matter experts.
The managing editor’s role is to serve as the project manager for this new publication, which entails administrative, editorial and production responsibilities, as outlined below.
Manage the editorial calendar and pipeline
Send deadline reminders to associate editors
Coordinate the peer review process; assist in fast resolution of conflicts
Coordinate Conflict of Interest disclosure process and transparency mechanism
Maintain and import email mailing lists
Monitor and report on statistics
Coordinate publication advertising, including approvals (this position does not include advertising sales)
Communicate stipend schedule to the accounting department
Monitor the flow of submissions to achieve a balance of topics
Communicate with the Editor regarding any content gaps
Make content strategy recommendations to the Editor and Associate Editor team as appropriate
Review and edit submissions according to GIE style (a modification of AMA style)
Research and verify submission accuracy (confirm titles, DOI, etc.)
Program the e-publication into the approved publication template
Obtain ASGE internal review and approval of draft e-publication
Distribute the e-publication
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism or related field
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent editing skills
Organized and resourceful
Knowledge of AMA style is preferred.
Familiarity with academic publishing preferred
Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with volunteer physician leaders
Experience with developing content in email marketing platforms such as Informz, MailChimp, etc.
Familiarity with HTML is helpful
Contract position (one year)
Ability to work remotely
Must be willing to participate in 1 to 2 regularly scheduled evening conference calls per month
Necessary equipment: must have access to a computer, printer, email and Internet access
Software required: Microsoft Office
