The Accounting Manager will report to the Executive Director with the core goal of serving the financial/accounting/ needs of the organization. We are looking for an energetic accounting professional eager to serve the nonprofit sector. The employee must be willing to take the initiative, give extreme attention to detail, and possess excellent accounting skills.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for financial accounting and administration, management of the job board, facility and equipment management, and assistance with personnel administration. The qualified candidate must be proficient in accounting and in the utilization of QuickBooks software, and be familiar with nonprofit accounting practices.
Financial Accounting and Administration
Facilitate all accounting functions, including receivables, payables, and payroll
Conduct daily routines such as transactions and data entry
Record all transactions in membership database GrowthZone and export to QuickBooks
Perform monthly reconciliations and adjusting entries
Create monthly financial statements and dashboard
Lead the annual budget process
Assist Director of Membership with membership accounting procedures
Coordinate with outside CPA firm on preparation of annual audit and 990
Process annual 1099 forms
Ensure filing system is kept up-to-date
Oversee organization processes, procedures, and compliance
Become proficient in database management and serve as database administrator
Job Board Management
Approve pending job posts daily
Assist new users with job posting process
Compile annual job board statistics
Proactively pursue growth for new postings
Develop strategies to expand usage
Facility and Equipment Management
Serve as staff liaison with outside IT service provider
Maintain all office equipment and serve as liaison with maintenance providers
Ensure office supplies are stocked appropriately
Record bi-weekly payroll in QuickBooks
Process retirement plan contributions
Maintain payroll records
Serve as staff support to Finance Committee
Provide excellent customer service
Assist with general office operations and daily tasks
Support database proficiency efforts
Assist with event and program registration as needed
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, nonprofit management, or related field preferred, or equivalent level of experience. Qualifications
Proficient in accounting and QuickBooks
Results-oriented, high energy self-starter with strong follow-through skills, strong organizational skills, and attention to see a process from beginning to end
Responsible and dependable individual who enjoys building upon positive experiences
Willingness and ability to take the initiative in developing ways to achieve organization growth and attain budget goals
Great ability to solve problems and identify possible outcomes from a variety of solutions
Excellent communication skills with friendly, sincere, and helpful problem solving approach to building relationships with staff and board
Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and willingness and ability to learn new software, including membership database
Maintain a personal professional presence, including appropriate/required business attire
Requirements The qualified candidate must be proficient in accounting, with preferable previous experience in the nonprofit sector. The candidate must be proficient in the use of QuickBooks software. Applicants without accounting and QuickBooks experience/knowledge will not be considered.
Compensation The salary for this position is in the $40,000 - $50,000 range. This position will receive full benefits, including 100% employer-paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as paid holidays and a generous PTO policy. This position will potentially work 30 – 40 hours per week, depending on the experience of the candidate. Schedule to be finalized prior to employment.
