THE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION ASSOCIATION:
Founded in 1991 by patients, for patients, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is the oldest and largest nonprofit patient association in the world dedicated to the pulmonary hypertension community. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare, chronic and life-threatening disease of the lungs for which no cure currently exists. Our mission is to extend and improve the lives of those affected by PH. The Patient Education Program Manager manages PHA’s patient education programs and disease state, medical and lifestyle education resources on a variety of topics related to pulmonary hypertension (PH), including live patient and caregiver focused conferences, patient and caregiver-centered online videos and web content, as well as related/complementary print resources (such as brochures, handouts and worksheets). The Patient Education Program Manager also ensures that PHA’s disease state awareness and education materials supplied to medical clinics (for use with patients, provided to attendees at PHA patient and caregiver conferences and offered online) are accurate and relevant for the populations affected by PH.
This position reports to the Associate Director, Quality Care & Research and collaborates closely with PHA leadership, as well as Patient & Caregiver Programs, Meetings & Conference Planning, and Communications & Marketing departments to ensure high-impact delivery of program and disease state, medical and lifestyle education resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the medical review process of educational content and materials both on the PHA website and in printed resources for patients and caregivers to ensure they are accurate and relevant.
Create and/or engage volunteers to help draft and/or revise online, video and printed educational resources to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Manage volunteer committees comprised of medical professionals and patients which includes invitations to participate, planning and facilitating virtual meetings, including material preparation and distribution, agendas and minutes.
Solicit and manage speakers for individual presentations, panels and event hosting.
Coordinate with Patient & Caregiver Programs department to ensure that all patient education is patient- and caregiver-centered, addressing patient and caregiver needs and representing their voices, to effectively and efficiently create the best resources.
Post and categorize videos, supplementary resources and updated web content utilizing a content management system (CMS); upload and categorize videos on PHA’s YouTube channel.
Create and/or collect learning objectives, presentation slides and summary information for live, virtual and/or recorded educational presentations, as well as presenter biographies and headshots and appropriate usage releases.
Create and distribute program and activity evaluations to measure program effectiveness, intended outputs and assessment of learning; summarize and analyze evaluation results.
Generate regular, comprehensive online activity reports for internal and external stakeholders and funders using evaluations and web traffic metrics.
Work closely with the Communications & Marketing department to promote events, presentations and other new educational resources through PHA’s communications channels including, but not limited, to e-newsletters, PHAssociation.org, social media channels, email blasts and registration brochures.
Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing and Meeting & Conference Planning departments to drive registration for PHA’s patient and caregiver live and online events.
Obtain written permission to utilize images, videos and other documents used by PHA for recorded live and virtual presentations, online courses or webinars.
Coordinate and moderate virtual educational presentations, ensuring presenters are prepared and on time, and presentation materials are complete and received prior to presentations.
Manage scripts and run-of-show, presentations (including slides, videos, handouts, etc.) and presenter engagement during live events.
Manage videography vendor selections as appropriate, including requests for proposal/bids and selections; act as liaison with videographers and video editors to create and edit video resources.
Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing department and vendors to create and produce program agendas and program books.
Distribute and collect up-to-date conflict of interest (COI) disclosures for presenters, panelists and other engaged parties in accordance with PHA’s conflict of interest policy.
Manage programs and projects within planned budget and timelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
3 years of program management experience.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in public health, public administration or related field; advanced degree a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Excellent relationship building and networking skills.
Ability to work with a wide variety of constituents including PH patients, caregivers and health care professionals, vendors, donors and sponsors.
Highly organized, solutions- and process-oriented, with ability to troubleshoot and problem solve, work as a collaborative team member and independently on multiple priorities, under tight timeframes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience working in a nonprofit environment, preferably with an underserved or disease state audience.
Experience with web CMS, YouTube video management, video editing software and/or project management software a plus.
