The Apartment and Office Building Association,(AOBA), is seeking an experienced individual to provide public relations direction and public policy support for its regional state and local advocacy and to manage grassroots initiatives. Working in close coordination with the EVP, Communications Manager and Government Affairs staff, the Director of Public Relations, Public Policy and Grassroots Advocacy will report to the Senior Vice President, Government Affairs. Superior judgment, excellent communication skills, sharp attention to detail, and creative problem-solving ability are essential to be successful in this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze and synthesize complex policy-related materials into understandable and digestible language for AOBA members and other stakeholders
Edit content provided by Government Affairs staff for weekly e-newsletters distribution.
Draft and distribute a variety of policy-focused written content, including talking points, fact sheets, leave behinds, presentations, social media posts, digital content, etc.
Develop and implement comprehensive grassroots advocacy strategy, including digital messaging.
Engage AOBA members in advocacy efforts.
Identify research opportunities and perform in-depth research to support policy-based messaging.
First point of contact with media.
Assist EVP and Sr. VP, Government Affairs manage AOBA relationships with policymakers, relevant trade organizations, partners, and coalitions.
In coordination with the Manager of Communications, continually update AOBA’s public policy web-page.
Assist Manager of Communications with development of AOBA’s Annual report.
Other duties as assigned.

A strategic thinker with experience in policy-based storytelling and driving visibility through social media and other digital communications
A clear and confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
A team player who can effectively collaborate and coordinate across multiple internal departments to achieve shared objectives
Experience in public relations/public policy and success in engaging stakeholders
Clear understanding of how to develop and implement grassroots strategies, including digital communications strategy
Ability to work collegially with others at all levels to achieve common goals and meet expectations for organizational culture and service excellence
Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications, or related field
At least seven years of experience in public relations/public policy, and direct experience with grassroots advocacy
Familiarity with income-producing real estate business a plus.
Telecommuting is allowed.
