Director, Government Relations
Council for Responsible Nutrition
The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) is seeking a Director, Government Relations to manage the state government affairs program for the trade association representing the dietary supplement industry. The Director will assure timely and accurate actions and responses to state legislative and regulatory issues and assume other responsibilities as assigned, including federal lobbying and advocacy efforts. GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES include serving as the lead advocate for CRN positions before State Legislatures on critical industry issues. Develop relationships with key legislators and staff to effectively channel the goals and desires of the association. Monitor, track and report on introduced legislation, amendments, committee hearings, mark-ups and floor votes. Lead CRN's Government Relations State Subcommittee. Assist with the organization of CRN Lobbying Days (State and Federal): develop programs, schedule meetings with elected officials, coordinate speakers, and provide itineraries, background materials and talking points. Lead/participate in various industry coalitions on State and Federal projects and initiatives. Develop and edit correspondence, memoranda, reports, budgets and presentation materials. Act as an information resource for members and other departments regarding department activities and policies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS include a baccalaureate degree, advanced degree a plus. Federal, state or local legislative and/or policy knowledge. Problem solving skills, attention to detail and ability to make decisions independently. Positive professional image and ability to respond appropriately to a variety of situations, including dealing with conflicting priorities and the handling of confidential information. Exceptional organizational skill, with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines with accurate results. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) for effective interaction with all levels of division, company and external partners. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Some travel may be required.
