POSITION TITLE: Director of Education REPORTS TO: Executive Director SUPERVISES: Education Managers and Coordinator (4 FTE)
The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) is growing! We are seeking to add a leader and educator with in-person, online and blended learning educational program expertise. The Director of Education will be responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of educational platforms/technology, meetings, online and blended learning initiatives, and the fellowship match program.
Strategic direction – Provides recommendations to society leadership and strategizes on future educational programing initiatives; identifies trends and future needs for activities to support continuing medical education; determines how to develop and measure program formats and content.
Operations – Provides oversight for implementation and evaluation of programs and activities (including the launch of a new LMS platform); prepares annual budgets, monitors and tracks expenses for each activity; reviews evaluation data to improve existing programs; sets project timelines and goals for meetings and monitor progress toward revenue and registration goals; provides direction to meeting services contractors; reviews contracts with site venues and vendors.
Data analysis – Identifies gaps in offerings; assesses analytics to identify unmet needs and new audiences; evaluate new technologies that further enhance the effectiveness of educational offerings.
Formats – Assesses formats for effective learning for all learning styles and member segments; identifies and develops new online and blended learning programs.
Serves as the staff liaison to the Education Committee and other committees within the OTA Education Council.
Ensures that activities are compliant with ACCME and AMA requirements for continuing medical education.
Reviews and amends internal processes to comply with policy, recordkeeping and regulatory requirements. Oversees ACCME reporting and reaccreditation application processes. Secures interprofessional accreditation where appropriate for educational activities.
OTA Fellowship Accreditation
Stays current on ABOS, AAOS and ACGME initiatives on fellowship programs.
Directs staff who coordinate the fellowship match process.
Acts as an advisor to staff on overall education program development, and meeting planning and implementation.
Exceptional ability to develop strong relationships with association members.
Fosters a learning environment for employees to support individual professional development and career advancement goals.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (in adult education, health-related or business field)
8+ years in continuing medical education in an association setting
Deep understanding of interprofessional accreditation processes
Thorough knowledge of adult education principles and online learning trends
Experience managing programs with staff, volunteers, and outside vendors
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with abstract submission, LMS and AMS platforms
Must be well organized with ability to coordinate multiple projects, meet aggressive deadlines, and demonstrate an inherent commitment to service excellence
Must be available to travel (approx. 20 days/year)
Must be able to lead and participate in evening conference calls and programs
Must enjoy a small office environment

The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), is a professional medical association with a mission centered on education and research geared towards improving patient care. The association membership is comprised mainly of orthopaedic trauma surgeons. There are over 1,900 members, and approximately 20 committees. Headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois, the staff works in close collaboration with the leadership in implementing, promoting and continuous evaluation of society programs and initiatives.
