The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 and representing over 99,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia and uniformed services, is seeking an Email Marketing Manager to join our Marketing and Communications team at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
The Email Marketing Manager will manage the execution of email marketing programs designed to help AVMA meet its marketing and communications goals, including segmentation recommendations, campaign set up, scheduling, HTML coding, testing, tagging, approvals, deployment, and monitoring. They will report to and collaborate with the Senior Brand Marketing Manager on messaging and email strategies and will maintain the calendar of direct response marketing activities in support of them. They are also responsible for maintaining a current understanding of email best practices and their role in direct response marketing and applying best practices in the execution of email campaigns:
- Works closely with the Senior Brand Marketing Manager to develop a clear email strategy in accordance with AVMA’s goals.
- Works with colleagues to understand Marcom goals and how specific campaigns relate to them, and recommends email approaches based on those goals and system capabilities, building them into campaigns from the beginning.
- Develops email calendar, ensuring they are appropriately spaced and represented; manages prioritization and scheduling, and ensures that delivery dates and deadlines are met.
- Conducts day-to-day execution of email programs from planning through analysis, including the uploading of assets, email build, development of tests, list management, QA, response tracking and performance analysis.
- Completes QA on all emails being deployed to ensure minimal errors and legal compliance: proof reading, email rendering, brand guideline requirements, CAN SPAM requirements, audience validation, and obtains required sign-off prior to deployment of all campaigns.
- Ensures responsive rendering consistency of email campaigns across multiple email clients.
- Creates and maintains various email templates, forms and landing pages within email platform.
- Conducts testing on various email campaigns to establish the most effective uses and applies learnings to future emails to improve performance.
- Creates and maintains SOPs, documentation and guides related to the email function.
- Stays abreast of and recommends email marketing best practices with coding, design and testing of email campaigns, and has a solid understanding of direct response principles.
- Provides regular reporting to Marcom team and senior leadership to help optimize future communication and make recommendations to continue the growth and success of campaigns based on trends, opportunities for improvement, and industry comparisons.
- Champions continuous advancement of email technical features and capabilities including targeting, personalization, automation, template development in collaboration with multiple stakeholders: development teams, designers, business teams and more.
- Collaborates with Marcom and Digital Services and Solutions (DSS) staff on customized technology integrations related to email programs.

To be successful in this role, you must be highly collaborative and passionate about AVMA’s mission. Additional qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in email execution
- Experience with coding in HTML, CSS; ability to troubleshoot coding problems
- 1 year of Adobe Photoshop experience.
- Experience working in email marketing platforms such as Delivra/Campaign Monitor, SalesForce, HubSpot or similar platforms.
- Experience with modern email client technologies.
- Understanding of Direct Response marketing activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, and to manage work under tight deadlines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent attention to details and project management skills.
- Proficient with basic software programs including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
