ISPOR−The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research is seeking an experienced publications professional to manage submissions, peer reviews and production processes.
ISPOR’s PUBLICATIONS DEPARTMENT
ISPOR’s portfolio of publications includes 2 peer-reviewed journals (Value in Health and Value in Health Regional Issues), 1 digital member magazine (Value & Outcomes Spotlight), and an e-newsletter (HEOR News Brief). The collective goal of these publications is to further the Society’s mission and strategic vision by promoting the application and understanding of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) around the world.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director, Publications, the Senior Manager, Publications will be responsible achieve timely and efficient production of all of ISPOR’s publications. In this role, the Senior Manager, Publications will monitor key performance indicators and work collaboratively with the Director and editorial boards to develop and implement content strategies that aim to continuously improve the quality and reputation of the journals and that align with the Society’s goals and objectives.
- Value in Health and Value in Health Regional Issues
- Serve as the Managing Editor for Value in Health and Value in Health Regional Issues (ie, manage the peer-review process, ensure the timely processing of papers, communicate with editors, authors, and reviewers, etc).
- Manage outsourced vendor (ie, perform quality control checks, provide feedback, create and update instructions, etc) to ensure efficient and reliable service.
- Monitor key performance indicators (impact factor, citations, usage data, etc) and generate reports on overall editorial processing times and editor performance. Work with editorial teams and vendors to develop solutions and improvements.
- Manage journal production process (ie, compile diverse mix of content in each issue, prepare lineups, review issue proofs, etc) and ensure accuracy of content posted to the ISPOR website.
- Provide training and act as a point of contact on the submission system for the journals’ editorial teams.
- Create and post content to the @ISPORjournals social media account.
- Promote and sell digital advertising and sponsorships.
- Assist the Director, Publications with promoting journal submissions and journal content.
- Assist in organizing Value in Health and Value in Health Regional Issues Editorial Board meetings (eg, preparing agendas, slide decks, meeting materials, discussion summaries, etc).
- Value & Outcomes Spotlight
- Serve as Managing Editor for Value & Outcomes Spotlight, liaising with the Editors, authors/writers, and ISPOR staff to develop and shape editorial assignments, edit and proofread content, and post content to the ISPOR website.
- Create and post content to the @ISPORjournals social media account.
- Manage the advertising processes and maintain accurate financial records.
- Promote and sell digital advertising and sponsorships.
- Assist the Director, Publications with promoting submissions and content.
- Organize Value & Outcomes Spotlight Editorial Board meetings (eg, preparing agendas, slide decks, meeting materials, discussion summaries, etc).
- Review and track key performance metrics of email promotions.
- HEOR News Brief
- Make and track assignments and manage freelance writer to deadlines.
- Review, edit, and prioritize submitted content and provide feedback to freelancer to continuously hone content for ISPOR audiences.
- Review and track key performance metrics of e-newsletter.
- Promote and sell digital advertising and sponsorships.
- Assist the Director, Publications in promoting HEOR News Brief.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Health Sciences/Health Policy, English, Communications, or related field.
- 5+ years of related work experience, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing peer-reviewed journals, is required. Experience with scientific and/or association content preferred.
- Direct experience in providing and improving editorial processes using a web-based manuscript submission system required (Scholar One, preferred).
- Knowledge of editorial/production best practices required.
- Highly professional, articulate self-starter capable of developing and executing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent editing, proofreading, and writing skills required.
- Knowledge of AMA style required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a high degree of professionalism in dealing with diverse partners and global audiences at all levels.
- Keen attention to detail; ability to multitask and meet deadlines; results oriented.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn new technology platforms.
- Proficiency with social media platforms preferred.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of ISPOR.
OUR LOCATION
Nestled half-way between Philadelphia and New York City, ISPOR’s headquarters is in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Our staff work in multiple work location arrangements: in-office, hybrid (2 days in office), and fully remote. Preference for this position is a hybrid work arrangement in our Lawrenceville, NJ location but remote arrangements will also be considered.
