The Sports Field Management Association was formed in 1981 by four industry leaders in an effort facilitate the sharing of ideas and information. Today, SFMA is an organization of 2,200 professionals who are dedicated to advancing athletic playing surface standards to ensure athlete safety, playability, consistency and pleasing aesthetics. By combining the science of maintaining turf grasses, infield materials and other surface elements, members of SFMA are increasing the quality of athlete experiences from youth teams to professional franchises -- including at many of the most celebrated and historical facilities in the world.
