SFPE seeks an accountant with at least two years of experience to work a part-time, non-exempt position (20-25 hours) supporting accounting functions for the Society and its Foundation. Responsibilities include the preparation of financial statements and coordination of cash control, credit and collection management, payroll, receivables, payables, and bank reconciliations. The position is also responsible for posting to registers and ledgers, account reconciliation, verifying the accuracy of accounting documents and codes, and preparing vouchers, and journal entries, which will require engaging with volunteers and members regarding invoices and receipts. The position will report to the CEO.
Day-to-Day transactions o invoice and payment processing o semi-monthly payroll, including recording payroll in the general ledger o cash receipts o merchant card processing
Month-end Close o bank reconciliation o investment reconciliation o cost allocations o balance sheet account reconciliations o monthly close o financial statement prep
Annual – Audit and 990 prep
Develop reports and metrics
Assist in the preparation of presentations for the board and members
Grant/contract management
Cash flow projections
Respond to questions by email or phone from vendors, employees, and others
Position Requirements • Associate's degree in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • A minimum of two years of accounting experience, including more than one sub-ledger; general ledger experience is preferred. • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). • Extensive experience with data entry, recordkeeping, and computer operation. • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and at least one commonly used accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred). • ADP payroll processing experience preferred. • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. • Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
This position must be able to work from our offices in Gaithersburg, Maryland one day per week and may telework on other days.
