The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) is a thriving professional medical society dedicated to optimizing patient care and improving lives through minimally invasive, image-guided treatments. SIR is seeking a Senior Director of Finance to lead the finance and accounting team. The Senior Director of Finance reports to the Executive Director, is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for the financial integrity of the organization. This is a key role and will directly impact the success of the Society’s strategic initiatives and growth opportunities!
This role is responsible for leading and managing all financial reporting and accounting processes for the entire organization. The ideal candidate will be adept at working with board members and delivering key financial presentations, developing financial and business models, as well as demonstrating sound investment strategy. The Senior Director of Finance partners with the Director of Business Technology to ensure that the development of business technology is aligned with the strategy and needs of the organization and is appropriately funded. The Senior Director of Finance supervises the Accounting Team.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Leading/managing the accounting and financial reporting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll functions and month end close.
Ensure internal controls are established and safeguard the organization’s assets including the development and documentation of policies and procedures.
In conjunction with Human Resource staff, ensure all benefits are being administered in compliance with internal policies and federal and state regulations.
Create and oversee a budgetary process that addresses the needs and goals of the Society and its related entities.
Prepare meeting agendas, materials, and logistics for Finance committee and Board of Director meetings.
Prepare and coordinate the annual audit with the external auditors and the Audit Committee chair. Ensure follow up of Audit recommendations.
Work with Director of Business Technology and participate in the Business Technology Team to ensure the Society’s IT infrastructure supports the needs of the organization, is conducive to secure financial transactions and that payment and receivable processes are efficient.
Maintain relationships with outside vendors, bankers, insurance companies and investment firm and report activity to the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Finance Committee
Work with the investment advisors to develop and implement investment policies that ensure that reserves for both the SIR and SIR Foundation are set at an appropriate level and are used to fund capital and major project investments as directed by the Board of Directors
Ensure that all 401k employee accounts are administered in accordance with retirement rules and regulations.
Upgrade and implement new accounting, budgeting, and administrative software on a regular basis to ensure processes meet industry standards.
Develop and maintain KPIs/dashboards for the organization and develop management and board reports on monthly basis.
Secondary Functions and Responsibilities
Work with other senior leadership team members to facilitate clear communication among all departments of SIR concerning society projects and initiatives.
Assist Senior Leaders in the development of strategic goals and measurable benchmarks for the Society and the SIR Foundation
Review the monthly reconciliation process and assist staff in the reconciliation and analysis of various general ledger accounts.
Approve payroll for release.
Review financial analysis with the Accounting Manager and maintain the budget as necessary.
Create dashboard reports detailing cash and investment positions, and budget to actual performance for Executive Director, Board of Directors and Finance Committees.
Perform RFPs for both the Audit Firm and the Investment Firms.
Maintain and implement documentation and contract policies for the organization.
Lead contact for office/facilities management and lease contract negotiations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Policy and Planning - provides information to budget planners to assist in the creation and management of budgets. Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures in conjunction with SIR leadership.
Software skills: Microsoft Office products (advanced Excel experience), association management software (preferably Personify) and accounting software experience (preferably Business Central or Solver).
10+ years of accounting or financial management experience, with at least several years in the non-profit sector.
Proven management and coaching skills.
Strength in tracking work activities, prioritizing without supervision, and paying attention to the details.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in handling multiple projects showing self-initiative to start and complete tasks on time.
A high motivation level and customer / member service orientation
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
MBA and/or CPA preferred but not required or equivalent experience.
At least 10 years accounting experience, managing high volume transactions, and $14million plus in revenue. Direct experience in hiring, training, developing and mentoring accounting teams.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Small, fast-paced open office environment with moderate noise levels. All SIR employees have the option for hybrid or fully remote work based on position and job requirements. Use of phones and computers for extended periods of time. Utilize office equipment and communication technologies for conference calls and teleconference meetings and webinars. Requires general mobility to move through the facility. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Frequent interaction with internal staff and physician members and volunteer board via phone, in person, email, and other mediums. Normal sitting and standing activities for an office environment. Some travel primarily for Annual Meeting.
