The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the national professional association established in 1917 to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students, is seeking a Vice President,Member Strategy & Engagement.Occupational therapy practitioners believe everyone deserves to maximize their potential and participate in everyday living. POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for strategic and operational leadership of AOTA’s initiatives to recruit and retain members, continually assess and enhance value for members/prospective members and engage members in activities across the association. Success relies on the ability to view members and potential members from different perspectives, identify and anticipate member needs and how this drives perceived value of membership and the most effective ways to involve members in ways that respects their personal and professional commitment.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Oversee all aspects of membership services, membership recruitment, and membership retention.
Plan, direct, coordinate, and administer membership recruitment and retention plans (in collaboration with the marketing and communications team), membership database integrity, and reporting.
Develop and implement ongoing mechanisms for listening to and assessing the changing needs of members/customers and communicating this with staff throughout the organization.
Develop targeted engagement strategies specific to occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and occupational therapy students.
Translate member needs into opportunities for expanding member value and market share.
Develop and implement innovative strategic and operational plans to expand the market share of practicing occupational therapy professionals engaged with the organization.
Develop and enhance member engagement opportunities through communities of practice, special interest groups, and outreach with state and other groups.
Guide and coordinate staff throughout the organization more effectively supporting member engagement by creating and executing a comprehensive plan to grow membership, including assessing market sectors and geographic areas for growth, setting targets for member engagement, and achieving revenue targets.
Lead development and execution of strategic plan to achieve organization’s sales targets and expand client base.
Continuously evaluates the marketplace for new opportunities to enhance the product portfolio through understanding, interacting with and developing engagements specific to occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and students as well as community experts and collaborators to expand the benefits/value of membership.
Work closely with communications and marketing teams to develop integrated messaging linked to value and engagement.
Develop and implement innovative and effective member/customer service strategies and effective processes that ensure timely AOTA responsiveness to both member and non-member Customer Service requests.
Guide member data collection efforts to assure access to information to guide strategic and operational decisions.
Partner collaboratively with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations to enhance AOTA programming and build capacity.
Consults with all levels of AOTA management. Establishes and maintains liaison with program directors and division/department heads. Proactively and effectively address components of workplace culture that impede organizational and individual effectiveness in a manner consistent with the organization’s values.
Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, accountability, trust, recognition and results among staff at all levels to drive the exploration, development, cultivation, and evaluation of strategic relationships internally and externally consistent with the short and long-term objectives of the organization.
Provide active, intentional leadership to the management function at AOTA by providing timely positive and constructive feedback; monitoring the accomplishment of team and individual goals and objectives; fostering an environment of continuous learning consistent with the needs of the organization, team and the individual staff member.
Provide a regular evaluation of the team structure, plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) for individuals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree accepted, from an accredited institution.
Professional certification and/or American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is a plus.
Seasoned executive leader with ten or more years of related work experience in the strategic and operational leadership of membership operations, related field and/or Association Management with a track record of success in delivering business solutions for organizations with a diverse customer base.
A different combination of formal education and experience will be considered.
Demonstrated success leading member strategy and engagement with a record of growing membership/market share.
Successful experience in developing and supporting components (special interest groups, communities of practice, affiliates, etc.) that effectively engage members.
Ability to collaborate effectively by building relationships across all departments and levels.
Ability to think and plan strategically as well as manage execution of projects.
Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize work, problem solve and deliver results.
Highly analytical and critical thinker with demonstrated success using data to drive decisions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to develop, deliver, and receive clear messages across all channels and with all audiences.
Proven success as a supervisor, coach and developer of staff.
The position exercises significant influence upon the actions or operations of others and has a major impact on the activities of AOTA.
Requires significant problem solving, judgment and innovative thinking to accomplish the goals and objectives of AOTA. The work involves formulating Association initiatives, programs and direction.
Receives strategic direction from Chief Officer and is given considerable latitude to manage the Division.

WORK ENVIRONMENT (In Office):
This position is a flexible hybrid environment. Work location (home and/or office) will be determined upon mutual agreement by AOTA/supervisor and employee.
The noise level in the work environment usually is moderate.
